Perhaps the most exciting aspect of PS Plus is that you get a handful of free games every month. As long as you maintain your subscription, you'll have indefinite access to these games. Even if you unsubscribe and then subscribe again later, the games will come back.
You pay a subscription fee (again, the longer you subscribe, the less you pay) and get access to a huge collection of games. Titles like The Last of Us Part 2, Fallout 76, and Tekken 7 are all included.
Though the PS Store is the official first-party destination to buy digital Sony games, it isn't the only option. There are lots of third-party retailers that sell digital codes for PlayStation games that you can then redeem on your console.
Avoid any shady key websites, but there are great video game discount websites you can use to ensure you only buy from legit merchants. Most of these let you set up alerts so you can be notified when your wishlist games reach your desired price.
So far, we've only focused on digital PlayStation games, but you can get most of them physically too. Often, physical games end up costing more than digital to account for the manufacturing and shipping.
The way around that? To buy used games. As long as you're not a collector who needs their games in pristine condition, there's no downside to buying used. While the case might be scuffed, the game itself will be exactly the same as if you bought it new.
The solution? Be patient. After half a year or more, the retail price will drop. The longer you wait, the cheaper it'll be. Lots of first-party PlayStation games end up being repackaged anyway, whether it's a "director's cut" or part of Sony's Essential range.
While it might be expensive to buy a PS4 or PS5 (the latter can be especially hard to get hold of at retail price), the games don't have to break the bank. Whether it's shopping in a sale or using a PlayStation subscription service, there's plenty of ways to save.

In the build-up to the PS5 launch titles coming out, Sony promised that there would be a free upgrade to the PS5 version for anyone who bought the PS4 version of one of these games. Bloodborne was a bit of a surprise game from developer FromSoftware, which has an established reputation for making more fantasy sword-and-shield-style games with an emphasis on toughness. Now Bloodborne is equally challenging, but it drops the conceit of hiding behind a shield and choosing when to strike for much more aggressive combat augmented by a gun and health regeneration if you attack at the right time Oh and its frame in what feels like a dark, gothic Victorian take on London.
It's an utter triumph. Bloodborne is one of FromSoft's most atmospheric and engrossing games, which goes from a brooding claustrophobic street adventure into a dive into other dimensions with a dose of eldrich horror. You'll fight and die against some horrific creatures and dexterous enemies. But each death is a learning moment and by the time you slay the final boss, you'll have one of the best natural highs around.
Death Stranding is undoubtedly one of the weirder games to come out in 2019. But it's also one of the games on the system, particularly if you enjoy Hideo Kojima's unique brand of unhinged futurism. In the game, you take control of Sam Bridges, who delivers supplies to survivors in a post-apocalyptic Earth. The titular "Death Stranding" unleashed a race of extradimensional creatures, which raise some extremely existential questions about life, death and the nature of power in the post-apocalypse.
Like other FromSoftware games, Elden Ring is incredibly difficult. Bosses can kill you in one or two hits, and regular foes need only three or four. But the flip side is that the combat is beautifully precise, and encourages you to build up your skills and strategies over time. You can level up your character any way you see fit, and outfit him or her with a variety of inspired gear. Elden Ring could conceivably keep you busy for dozens of hours, so if it sounds interesting, now is the best time to get started.
While the story questions whether Kratos' violent past was fully justified, the gameplay is as satisfying and visceral as ever, pitting the demigod against all manner of trolls, sea monsters and dragons. It's a bold new direction for a beloved series, and easily one of the best action/adventure games for the PS4 you can buy.
Set in a postapocalyptic world that has had time to become lush once again, Horizon Zero Dawn tells the story of Aloy: a pariah from her tribe, who nevertheless becomes a master of the bow and spear. As she explores the dangerous world around her, she learns that she may play a pivotal role in changing it for the better. It's one of the best action/adventure games on the PS4, although it's now available to play on PC as well.
For those who pine for the days of Fallout: New Vegas and the Mass Effect trilogy, there's The Outer Worlds. This first-person RPG casts you as a colonist in the Halcyon solar system, pitted against a handful of powerful corporations that will do absolutely anything to maximize profits, no matter who suffers along the way. With action-packed gameplay, tons of options to resolve quests non-violently, an affable cast of party members and a story that reacts profoundly to the choices you make, The Outer Worlds is one of the best games of its type in years.
With tight controls, a variety of goofy weaponry and a thoroughly enjoyable story, Ratchet & Clank is a perfect entry point for both kid and adult newcomers to the series. From ray guns, to rocket launchers, to weaponized disco balls that make everyone dance, the weapon variety alone is enough to carry the game. Ratchet & Clank is also a Sony exclusive, meaning that it's one of the best kids games on the PS4. 041b061a72
